The Cape Animal Medical Centre was established in 1996, initially operating from a house in Mowbray.  Dr Malan van Zyl joined Dr Gary Bauer who had the same vision of establishing a veterinary referral centre of expertise.  In 1999 the current premises in Kenilworth were bought, designed and built.  This was not easy as there were no similar facilities in South Africa and the banks had to be convinced of a new pioneering concept in veterinary services.  Initially the specilities of Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology were established while the After Hours Clinic provided night and week-end emergency services to the greater Cape Town.  Subsequently the Acuvet acupuncture/homoeopathy clinic and Dental Clinics joined us.  Idexx Laboratories then also moved into the premises to render laboratory services to the CAMC and the greater Western Cape.  Most recently the After Hours Clinic became the All Hours Clinic, now rendering routine as well as emergency services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
